RELIGIOUS INQUIRY
Guidance, grounded in the Dharma
A one-on-one consultation in which you bring a real concern — a family difficulty, a vocational decision, a question of health or spirit — and receive counsel grounded in the Dharma.
01 — WHAT IT IS
Religious Inquiry — 問事 — is a tradition of bringing personal questions before the Buddhas through the guidance of a master. You bring a specific concern; the response is a meeting of the practical and the contemplative, where the immediate question is honoured and the teaching that addresses it is offered.
The approach is contemplative, not oracular. Your question is examined within the framework of Buddhist understanding — the workings of karma, the practice of skillful means, the recognition of attachment. Sometimes the response is a practice to undertake; sometimes a perspective you had not considered; sometimes simply the validation of what the heart already knew.
HOW A CONSULTATION WORKS
Request a time
Reach out to arrange a private consultation. Reflect honestly on what you wish to ask — a precise question receives a precise response.
Meet with the temple
You meet the temple master privately in a quiet space. You describe the question; the master listens, asks clarifying questions where needed, and offers counsel grounded in the Dharma.
Receive guidance
The counsel points toward both the practical resolution and the deeper Dharma understanding the situation invites. What is shared remains between you, the master, and the Three Jewels.
02 — COMMON QUESTIONS
What kinds of questions do people bring?
Family difficulties, decisions about work or relocation, health concerns, how to support a struggling family member, spiritual doubt, or simply questions of Buddhist understanding.
Is the master predicting the future?
No — Religious Inquiry is not divination. The master draws on the Buddha’s teachings and your own situation to offer perspective, understanding, and sometimes a specific practice. Outcomes depend on your own continued conduct.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What is shared in the consultation remains between the supplicant, the master, and the Three Jewels.
